Marijuana
I believe marijuana should be fully legal in the state of Kansas. Just like abortion, I don’t condone smoking nor encourage anyone to smoke. I simply believe that adults can freely and safely recreate as they see fit. The legality of marijuana has never prevented anyone from having access to marijuana in the same way that ‘No guns allowed’ have ever stopped crime.
The vices of alcohol, gambling, tobacco, marijuana and more can hinder societal growth, but no government law has ever fixed the problem. I have personally seen the negative affects of addiction just like many people have. This problem is the result of an individual’s choices. And while individuals all have different blessings and curses brought to them by their birth, the solutions will only come from their individual choices.
If you are so against drug abuse, help build community that gives people something better to do than drugs. Flooding our prisons with these ‘criminals’ does not fix any problem, it simply defines another problem. Just like abortions, the argument on marijuana is about a symptom as compared to the disease.
The disease is a person’s hopelessness at improving there life. So the temporary high is seen as a worthy investment. Help your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, etc. defeat the vice of addiction. And for those who can responsibly recreate on whatever entertainment they choose, so be it.
And as an aside I believe that 18 years is the age of adulthood.
